Frequently Asked Questions

No, not every house comes equipped with a septic control box—and there are even some septic system types which don’t require one. If your location is connected to the municipal/city system or relies on gravity to move waste, then a septic controller isn’t needed. However, should the system contain any electrical components, such as pumps, then a controller is necessary to monitor everything and keep elements operational.

Usually, septic control boxes are positioned on the outside of a house or building, but they can also be mounted on a pole near the system’s septic tank; as long as the controller is easily viewable and can be accessed without issue, any location should be fine.

For the most part, installing a new septic control box takes around 2–4 hours—should new conduits and trenching be required, the project could end up requiring half a day.

Installation cost depends on your system’s required panel type, wiring needs, and the state of your float switches. As a good estimate, installations in Central Oregon usually start around $500 to $1,500. We provide upfront estimates before any work begins.

Should the controller’s power be interrupted, any connected electrical elements will cease functioningpumps will stop moving waste, float switches won’t monitor water levels, and the alarm will fail to sound if the septic tank gets too full. While the system will resume normal operation once power is restored, it’s essential that you limit your water usage during outages to prevent an accidental overflow or backup.
